Occupation: Sales & Marketing Manager at Vibease

Location: Singapore

The Sex in My Business: Vibease is a sex tech company that specializes in high-end smart vibrators. As a Sales & Marketing Manager, it’s my job to raise awareness of our product, which is designed to help women discover their bodies and the physiological pleasure of sex and orgasms.

A Typical Day: My mornings usually start with a visit to the café near my office — the best way to begin my day. After that, I go to work. My job is to oversee and coordinate my team’s progress on the various projects we are assigned, which means it’s my responsibility to keep the Vibease founders updated on our progress while also making sure everyone on the team is in sync with the company’s timeline and objectives. The first thing I do on a typical day is collaborate with my associates to plan our day, making sure we attend to the most urgent work first. When all of that has been handled, I check in on our online sales figures, and then I start shuttling around between meetings with team members and/or collaborators. In the afternoon, I catch up on emails and our social media platforms. Finally, I do another quick check of our online sales figures before I call it quits for the day.

The Best Part: I am passionate about learning new things, and I love my job because there is always something new to discover. It’s a field that is constantly changing, as new technologies are developed to expand our capabilities and inspire our creative ideas, and I feel extremely fortunate to work in it.

The Worst Part: Even though I love my job and am proud of what we do at Vibease, the way that some people react when they learn what I do for a living can be disappointing at times. When responses are rude or not very tactful, dealing with them can get annoying.

How I Got Here: If you can believe it, before I set foot in the business world, I was a flight attendant with Singapore Airlines and a certified optometrist. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in management from University College Dublin, but I would say that marketing only comprised about seven percent of my degree syllabus. I acquired most of my sales & marketing knowledge from a business venture prior to Vibease — I co-owned and co-managed a Swiss sewing & embroidery distribution business in Singapore and my partner and I were very hands-on in all aspects of the business (B2B sales, digital marketing, PR, etc.). My business partner used to be the Regional Head of Marketing for a very esteemed luxury brand, so I was lucky enough to be able to tap into her sales & marketing expertise. When I came across the sales & marketing position at Vibease I found that my skill set complemented the needs of the position and was excited to utilize them. Plus, I was intrigued by the technology behind the product. It has been a while since then, and I still love every minute of it!

What Society Thinks: I live in a conservative society, so the first response I typically get when I mention my work is “Are you kidding me?”, “Are you serious?”, or just a burst of laughter. These reactions don’t really bother me though — they just confirm the big knowledge gap that exists, especially in Asia, when it comes to sex education and propels me to do even more. After I explain what sex tech is all about, these same people are often amazed by the advancements in digital technology surrounding sex toys.

When I’m Not At Work: I enjoy working out (I try to exercise two times a week, which is still very little!). I also like traveling, photography, and hanging out with the people I care about while sharing good conversations, food, and wine.
