Occupation: Dominatrix

Location: Barcelona, Berlin, London

The Sex in My Business: I redefine and facilitate sexual expression within a BDSM context.

A Typical Day: A typical workday involves a lot of time on the computer. I’m the CEO, accountant, marketing director, and talent of my business. I create content, update social media, schedule appointments, and communicate with clients on a regular basis.

The Best Part: My favorite part is the in-person interactions with clients. I enjoy exploring consensual kink, connecting, and celebrating what is a central part of the customer. I also love offering people a safe place to be themselves, especially when society condemns what makes them feel whole.

The Worst Part: Computer work is very time consuming and can feel very isolating. I also dislike having to navigate the ever-changing laws that that seek to push sex workers into the shadows.

How I Got Here: I was always very curious about sex work and kink. I went to art school in New York City, and afterward I found an ad on Craigslist to work in a dungeon. Back then, it was called Mistress Jasmine’s. I worked there on and off for a year or so before I became an independent worker.

What Society Thinks: In our society, it’s ok to look like a whore but not be one. Current social attitudes celebrate artists that are inspired by sex workers. Fetish attire can be seen anywhere from Halloween outfits to couture collections. People want to consume sex and express themselves as dominatrixes do, but when someone is actually a sex worker they can easily be disowned by friends and family, lose their mainstream jobs, or have their children taken away from them.

But there have been wonderful strides towards progress. More and more, the sex work community has built non-profits and rallied for decriminalization. While I don’t feel safe telling people on the street about my job, I am confident and proud of being a dominatrix.

When I’m Not at Work: I'm an artist, so I like to spend most of my time working on artwork and building my body of work.
